More on XE Multipliers in the ARRL 10 Meter Contest

April 2, 2010

We are receiving some comments about the addition of the Mexican states to the 10 Meter Contest.  While many people have said they look forward to the chance to work new multipliers while learning Mexican geography, others have administrative questions or simply don’t want change.

The ARRL Board’s Programs and Services Committee was looking for a way to enhance the expanding goodwill between Hams in Mexico and the US, and provide an additional spark to a contest that has been suffering the most from a lack of sunspots.  The 10 Meter Contest is widely viewed as an event that has strong appeal to contesting newcomers and has a focus on North America — especially during solar cycle minimums — and was deemed a perfect choice for expanding ARRL’s contest program to include Mexico.

Mexico’s FMRE and the Grupo DXXE are excited to take a new role in the ARRL 10 Meter contest.  Activity levels from Mexico in all contests is on a fast increase, and having a popular contest incorporate Mexico in a new way will be sure to spur even more activity. Less than two days after the announcement was made, efforts are already underway within Mexico to canvas active hams in each state to ensure a strong presence in the contest.

ARRL HQ staff will continue to work with logging program authors and its contest adjudicators to be ready for the 2010 running of the 10 Meter contest.

32 New Multipliers In ARRL 10 Meter Contest!

March 30, 2010

Hi Folks-

Big news for all you 10 Meter Contest fans: beginning in 2010, the 32 states of Mexico will count as additional multipliers.

The ARRL Programs and Services Committee voted to make this change effective with the 2010 running of the event. We have already heard great enthusiasm from FMRE, the Mexican national amateur radio organization. Based on their response, we should see most — if not all– of the XE states activated for the 2010 10 Meter Contest.

This addition is only for the 10 Meter Contest; it does not affect any other ARRL contest.

The list of Mexican states, along with their official abbreviations, is below:

Note:  Revillagigedo (XF4) will remain a multiplier due to its status as a separate DXCC entity.

The new arrl.org is QRV!

March 24, 2010

As of 1400 UTC Wednesday, the old arrl.org website went offline and the process of putting the new arrl.org online has begun. The new arrl.org will be fully viewable in just a matter of hours.

Please take some time to poke around the new site. It will be a little different, so it could take a little time for you to find what you’re looking for.

I’m pretty confident that you will really enjoy the new site. However, despite out best efforts to transfer everything over smoothly, you’re probably going to find some stuff that is missing.

If you find something missing in the Contest area or can’t seem to locate what you’re looking for, just send me an email at kx9x@arrl.org and I’ll either tell you how to find what you’re looking for, or make a note of the problem you’ve encountered.

I hope you enjoy the new ARRL web site!

ARRL Contest Branch Blog /p

February 19, 2010

Hi Folks-

Sean, KX9X here, blogging direct from ARRL HQ, just hours before the start of the 2010 ARRL DX CW Contest. I hope everybody gets on and works a lot of DX.

We’ve all been really busy here at ARRL working on the new web site, and it’s set to debut any time now.  I have no doubts you will enjoy the new look and easier navigation. However, as with any project of this magnitude, some things will not be available right out of the chute. One of those things is the ARRL blogs.

That is why I’ve set up this temporary blog off-site. It still gives me a place to post news and info about the goings-on at the ARRL Contest Branch. When blog capabilities are added to the new arrl.org site, this blog will go away. Until then, link here for news and updates: https://kx9x.wordpress.com

When the new site does roll out, please take some time to poke around the Contest area and tell me what you think. I’m certain you will find things that aren’t posted yet; please let me know about them and I will correct them as I can.  you can email me at kx9x@arrl.org

Many thanks for reading.  Happy contesting!

73 for now,

Sean Kutzko KX9X
